The D-Link DWL520+

The HostAP driver will NOT work with the D-Link DWL-520+. This card uses a TI ACX100 chipset that currently only has a driver for Linux that is described generously as very experimental. The open-source driver also requires a binary firmware image that can not be redistributed legally.

There is currently (01/2004) no support for HostAP features. There is currently no support for the 802.11g 54Mbps high-speed connections.

If you have this card, the HostAP driver will NOT work with it.

The ACX100 driver may be working well enough to meet your needs. However, a better solution would be to purchase hardware solutions from vendors that support your choice of the Linux operating system by providing Linux drivers for their products.

This card is NOT recommended!

Therefore, the D-Link DWL-520+ is not a recommended choice. Return it to the place of purchase for a refund, or credit to purchase a product that supports and is supported by Linux and Open Source software.
