RSS News Feeds

'RSS' is an acronym for Really Simple Syndication

What is it?

It is basically an XML file that describes the current "articles" available on a website. It typically contains the main link to the website, it's name, and a description. For the articles, they typically contain the link to the article, the headline, and sometimes a synopsis of the article.

In short, it's a simple way for someone to request a list of interesting links on your website.

Not the content itself.

Just the list of links.

Why is that cool?

Mere mortals can create automated applications over the Internet. For example:

Create an RSS feed for the temperature in your refrigerator.
Somewhere, read your RSS feed with an RSS newsreader program (e.g. AmphetaDesk)
See if your refrigerator is running.
Go catch it!

ArchLUGKwiki and NewsFeeds

While ArchLUG provides a RecentChanges feed on every page, and several ArchLUG Calendar feeds (e.g. the 30-day feed (view ), here are some related Linux and OpenSource news feeds.

Add your own feed from your Blog or favorite site below.

Create a link with the RSS- prefix, and then use the NewsPlugin to define the feed.

Please include a link back to the NewsFeeds page.

Broken Feeds

The following feeds are broken either because the feed is down, the feed is responding with an invalid RSS XML file, or we are unable to parse the RSS XML file properly.

Currently all feeds are operational

To "disable" a feed, simply edit the page in question and change the 'NEWS' plugin name to 'NEWSisDOWN'. This will cuase it to be displayed as plain text.

The easiest and confirming to standards way is to include the following meta tag on your blog's index page:

RSS Discovery has other algorithms to identify a blog's RSS feed but the above mentioned is the best manner to do so.
