It is basically an XML file that describes the current "articles" available on a website. It typically contains the main link to the website, it's name, and a description. For the articles, they typically contain the link to the article, the headline, and sometimes a synopsis of the article. In short, it's a simple way for someone to request a list of interesting links on your website. Not the content itself. Just the list of links. Why is that cool? Mere mortals can create automated applications over the Internet. For example:

While ArchLUG provides a RecentChanges feed on every page, and several ArchLUG Calendar feeds (e.g. the Add your own feed from your Blog or favorite site below. Create a link with the RSS- prefix, and then use the NewsPlugin to define the feed. Please include a link back to the NewsFeeds page. ArchLUGOur own feed, of course ... OtherBroken FeedsThe following feeds are broken either because the feed is down, the feed is responding with an invalid RSS XML file, or we are unable to parse the RSS XML file properly.
To "disable" a feed, simply edit the page in question and change the 'NEWS' plugin name to 'NEWSisDOWN'. This will cuase it to be displayed as plain text. Related Syndication Tools
