Brother MFC devices on Xandros

Installing support for the Brother MFC devices is fairly straightforward, as Brother provides driver support for Linux directly.

The drivers can be downloaded from the Brother Linux Driver page:

Make sure you download BOTH the CUPS and the LPR drivers. The reason is that the CUPS driver is really a wrapper driver that makes the LPR drivers work with CUPS, and Xandros, like all modern Linux distributions, uses CUPS for printer management.

  1. Download the latest dcp110clpr-#.#.#-#.i386.deb from Brother.
  2. Download the latest cupswrapperdcp110c_#.#.#-#_i386.deb from Brother.
  3. In XandrosNetworks set your sources to allow the Xandros Unsupported Debian Site.
  4. Search for 'csh' on XN and install it. You might need to check the "Expert" section of the results.
  5. Search for 'lpr' on XN and install it. You might need to check the "Expert" section of the results.
  6. Alternatively, you can also run 'apt-get install csh lpr' from an Administrator (root) console.
  7. Then you will need to open an Administrator (root) console and run the following commands:
dpkg -i --force-all dcp110clpr-1.0.2-1.i386.deb
dpkg -i --force-all cupswrapperdcp110c_1.0.0-1_i386.deb

Then the device will appear as installed in the Xandros Control Center in Peripherals => Printers.

The above instructions were adapted from this post in the Xandros User Forums from user drdrgivemethenews.
