XandrosAndSmallFonts

*Q*: The menu fonts in Mozilla and OpenOffice are way too small. Adjusting the font size in the control panel doesn't seem to work. How can I fix this?

*A*: The reason that the Xandros (KDE) Control Center has no effect is that those are GTK apps. They aren't managed by the KDE Control Center, but are managed by the GNOME Control Center. (GNOME is another desktop framework, like KDE, which manage how your desktop looks and works)

  • Open Xandros Networks
  • Select Edit -> Set Application Sources from the menus
  • Check "Debian Unsupported Site"
  • Select OK
  • Select Settings -> Expert View from the menus
  • Now do a Search for 'gnome-control-center'
  • It should find only one item (the gnome control center)
  • Select the install link and install it.
  • Run Apps -> System -> Gnome -> Gnome Control Center from the menus, and change your fonts as desired.
  • Bitstream Vera 12 or Bistream Vera 10 are good selections for your base font size.

Or from an Administrator Console (i.e. as root) do 'apt-get install gnome-control-center' and then run 'gnome-control-center' and change the fonts accordingly.

Adjusting Desktop Icon Fonts (size and/or color)

This setting is not located in the Control Center -> Display -> Font Section as one might think.

You must go to Control Center -> General Settings -> Appearance to set the standard font and the color used by the desktop icons.
